Internal Medicine

As board certified internists, Dr.'s Skul and Hoyer treat complex medical problems of adult patients, ranging from hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and arthritis to preventive care, including annual exams with Pap, contraceptive counseling, menopausal management, screening for and treatment of osteoporosis. They emphasize healthy lifestyle, nutrition and fitness and offer successful approaches to weight management. Patients are encouraged to be active participants in their health care decisions.

In addition, they provide experienced guidance in nutritional management and diagnostics, utilizing state of the art testing (www.spectracell.com) and cardiovascular laboratory screening (www.liposcience.com).

An advanced degree nurse practitioner, Helen Shidler, ND, APN/CNP who specializes in adult and geriatric patient care, assists physicians and sees patients independently. She is also available to provide same day appointments for acute medical problems.

Obstetrics and Gynecology

Our expertise is in primary care women's health. We are specialists in internal medicine and obstetrics and gynecology. In order to care for our patients more completely, we have selected subspecialists in mental health, allergy and immunology, gastroenterology, women sports medicine and plastic surgery to provide on site consultations at the Center. All of us share the same philosophy of patient centered care and have a strong commitment to education of patients and medical professionals.

Diabetic Education

Extensive list of diabetic educational services are provided by Janet Graeber who is a registered nurse and a certified diabetes educator. She counsels patients on an on individual basis with focus on self management of diabetes.

Services provided include:

  • basic explanation of causes of DM
  • blood sugar monitoring
  • weight and nutritional counseling
  • behavior modification
  • gestational diabetes education
  • insulin injection training
  • insulin pump use

Skin Care

FotoFacial Revolutionary new treatment delivering intensely pulsed white light (IPL), not laser, to various areas of skin with intent to improve imperfections of texture, color and tone, leaving skin healthy and glowing.

The long term benefit of stimulating healthy collagen production gives the skin a more youthful appearance. Biopsies have shown that this procedure sets the biological clock back by 10 years.

Most suitable for treatment of:

  • rosacea (pink discoloration of the facial skin with prominence of broken capillaries and acneiform rashes)
    - lentigo (sun damaged skin)
  • melasma (brown spots from pregnancy or birth control pills)
  • enlarged pores
  • fine wrinkles
  • lentigo

Treatments result in no adverse immediate reaction other than a mild redness of the face which fades away within minutes following a treatment which typically lasts thirty minutes.

 Best results occur if five treatments are received three weeks apart, followed by seasonal maintenance treatments, every three months.

Microdermabrasion Microdermabrasion is a gentle treatment for refinement of any skin type. It utilizes variable degree of suction to get rid of the surface imputities and extremely fine crystals which polish the skin to a velvety smooth texture.

  • smooths out imperfections including mild to moderate scars and hyperpigmentation
  • promotes renewal of skin
  • diminishes appearance of fine wrinkles

There is no down time and a treatment lasts approximately fifteen minutes.

For optimum results six treatments are received at intervals of seven to ten days, followed by seasonal maintenance treatments every three months.

Gastroenterology

Subspecialty consultations on a variety of conditions affecting the digestive tract are provided once a week by a board certified gastroenterologist from Rush University Medical Center. She performs the screening and diagnostic procedures (esophagogastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy) at either Lincoln Park Hospital or Rush.

Women's Sports Medicine

Recognizing the distinct differences in manifestation of musculoskeletal injuries in women, we are offering to our patients subspecialty services rendered by one of the country's most prominent subspecialists in the field. She focuses on non-invasive approaches and when appropriate, collaborates with her orthophaedic partners, surgeons from Midwest Orthophaedics.

Mental Health

Private practice board certified psychiatrist, specializing in women's mental health treats an array of conditions ranging from mood and anxiety disorders, adjustment reactions, balancing life's stressors, postpartum depression, adjustment to chronic illness to grief reaction and marital discord. She collaborates with highly trained clinical psychologists who counsel patient with the above issues.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy geared specifically to women is provided by an independent physical therapist who specializes in women’s musculoskeletal disorders and difficult to treat pelvic floor disorders, including urinary incontinence and chronic pelvic pain.
