Helen Shidler, DNP, APN/CNP
Helen Shidler is a certified nurse practitioner (CNP) who works collaboratively with the internal medicine physicians at the Center. She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as both an adult and gerontological nurse practitioner. Prior to her CNP role, Helen held management, faculty, and staff positions throughout her more than twenty-five year nursing career.
Helen’s academic degrees include a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Rush University in Chicago (June 2001), a Master of Science from Rush University (December, 1981), and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the College of Mount St. Joseph on the Ohio in Cincinnati (June 1973). Helen holds membership in the American Nurses Association, the Illinois Nurses Association, the National Conference of Gerontological Nurse Practitioners, the Chicago Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses, the Illinois Geriatric Society, and Sigma Theta Tau. She also holds a certification by the American Heart Association as a CPR Instructor Trainer.
In her FirstLine Therapy Life Coach role, she reflects that has grown personally and professionally. Lifestyle has always been a focus of patient teaching throughout her career. It thrills her to see individuals get better as a result of making healthy lifestyle changes. Her empathy and teaching ability converge in the role of Life Coach to share her best professional self.
Helen delivers a unique blend of nursing and medical care to treat the whole person. She works in partnership with patients to identify areas of strength that will help them feel healthy and happy.
Her personal interests include photography, nature, travel and hiking.
