Jean C. Walker, MD
Obstetrics & Gynecology
is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved
colleague, Jean Walker, MD on October 5, 2013. Jean led an incredibly
productive life despite multiple complications of systemic lupus
erythematosus over many years. Her most recent and rapidly advancing
illness tragically took her life prematurely, although she was able to
fulfill her wish to work until two days before her final
hospitalization. With a beautiful smile on her face, Jean delivered her
last baby on September 16, 2013.
Dr. Walker practiced obstetrics and gynecology since 1996, initially as a member of Rush Center for Women’s Medicine and for the last 12 years as a partner at Comprehensive Center for Women's Medicine where she touched thousands of patients’ lives through her exceptional competence, caring and compassion.
Comprehensive Center for Women’s Medicine lost more than just a physician partner, we lost a true friend and an unyielding women’s health advocate.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 18, 2013 at Rush University Medical Center in Room 500 from 4 PM to 7 PM. We invite you to join us in celebrating the life of a wonderful physician, dear friend, wife, daughter and sister whose presence touched so many and who is sorely missed.
It was Jean’s wish to have her friends gather in a room full of flowers and to show support for charitable organizations associated with Humane Society, breast cancer and Hospice.
Jean Walker was a graduate of the medical school at University of
Illinois-Chicago/Rockford, and performed her Obstetrics/Gynecology
residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago.
After residency, Dr. Walker joined the Rush Center for Women's Medicine,
practicing with three other internists (including Vesna Skul, MD and Danuta Hoyer, MD) before joining with Doctors Skul and Hoyer to open the
Comprehensive Center for Women’s Medicine.
Dr. Walker’s practice philosophy was one of respecting and listening to patients, and providing exceptional medical care using conventional, alternative, minimally invasive and natural methods. She believed that to practice good medicine a doctor must first listen to her patients, providing and supporting alternative methods to optimize healthcare.
As an Obstetrician-Gynecologist, she believed in and followed a more natural supported labor and birth, and was a strong proponent of minimally invasive surgery, as a last resort.
Dr. Walker has been among Best Doctors for Women in Chicago as reported by Chicago Magazine, for nearly a decade. In 2011 she was ranked as The Nation's Top Doctors by US News.
Dr. Walker thoroughly enjoyed being an Obstetrician/Gynecologist. She believed in the work she did at the Center, and greeted each day with enthusiasm and a passion for medicine.
